Not only did she tell me, she showed me. My mom demonstrated this advice all her life. My mom is a conscientious woman. She is that single mother who did everything she could to provide for her four children, not ever compromising her integrity. Even if the journey wasn’t easy, she powered through life never having to take shortcuts. In a previous career she had, she could not be lured by bribes or quick and easy financial gains. She worked hard to get what she needed and wanted.
I sleep very well at night because I embraced this advice.
In my career as a financial professional, I put client's best interest first and don’t even look at what my gain is from any transaction. It's natural for me to go above and beyond for them. This has allowed me to build beautiful relationships with clients, and not just have business transactions.
My mother practices what she preaches even in areas like her passion for dancing. Starting in her late 40s, she took one ballroom dance lesson after another, practiced, mastered a dance. She was on the dance floor 3-4x a week after work. Today, she can practically dance all of them so beautifully.
Just like my mother, I got interested in a variety of sports and other recreational activities in my 30s & 40s and when you start a little later in age, it’s hard work to build endurance mentally and physically. And following my mom’s advice, the hard work of training consistently paid off because I managed to complete several marathons and a triathlon. I also learned tennis, boxing, and golf. I even learned and can now dance west coast swing, salsa & bachata. For all of these, I attended classes or got a trainer or a coach to teach me the basics and I practiced… as much as I could. Just like my mother.
It has also been hard work to maintain the same weight and size I was 25 yrs ago. I’ve been working out at least 4x a week religiously for the past 25 years (even after 3 car accidents that caused spine injuries). No shortcuts, no magic pills. Oddly enough, my mother has maintained her size 0-2 figure all this time as well. And no, it wasn’t just because she was gifted with the right genetics. She worked at that too.
Hard work also paid off when I had a vision to create a product, and with the help of people I figured out how to get it done. It is now a company called bkcessories, a fashion brand. And more importantly it took hard work to get this myMBA platform off the ground, and I know it will create a positive impact in the world.

Thank you Mom for teaching me the value of hard work and integrity.
Not only has it allowed me to discover and expand my capabilities, it has allowed me to have meaningful
experiences and valuable relationships along the way. I sleep well knowing
I have not cheated anyone and no bad karma is coming my way.
I am proud of you, and honor you. You have provided the foundation for me to have the best life possible.
I love you sooooooo…. much.
