“Always Come from Love”

(Excerpt from an interview with Jack Lillian, Owner of Photo Mania Booth and Music Mania)

My mother beams love. You just look at her and there's love present. She’s never not smiling and always kept her sense of humor.  Mom was very supportive and she spoke in a way that I really heard her commitment to me. Her message doesn't go from one ear to the other and I could feel and hear that she comes from love. It’s hard to resist someone who you know comes from love.

This advice has helped me tremendously in my marriage.  I have a default way of being that comes from “I’m always right, and I know better” and it was easy for me to get angry.  Because my mom kept demonstrating coming from love to me and also repeated this advice to me I’ve really been able to use it especially in resolving conflicts.  So when I had conflict in my marriage, I remember to come from love.  And from there, I was able to accept my wife and grant her space to be who she is. Perfect and complete just the way she is and I learned that’s the best way to truly be loving.  We’ve been married for 33 years and we enjoy each other’s company a lot because of that.

Another instance where coming from love has helped me is in my relationship with my son.  As a parent, I wanted my son to have better opportunities and a better life. And a better life meant he would do well in school and get a College education. Both of those I didn’t pursue and have.  For so long, I was frustrated and angry about why he didn’t want to pursue a College education. That caused a disconnection between me and him. I used this advice and I came from love, granted him being, and he now runs my window cleaning business and enjoys being an entrepreneur like me and making a good living. Our communication is so much better, we say I love you every time we speak, and now he calls me for ideas and even just to chit chat about life.
